Just having finished my dinner, late because I have had so much to do, and felt content I had had a simple and nutritious meal. I had my vegies, and lots of them because I love them. I had it on rice. Now I know what everyone will say, was it brown rice? Although I love all rice I had suchi rice today because it’s particularly yummy. I then thought to myself I bet those nutritionist would scold me for that because it’s – white. Anything white is supposed to be bad for you. Like sugar, flour, potatoes and white rice.
Now, I thought to myself this is rather peculiar to me. Millions and millions upon millions of people have lived off white rice for centuries. My best friend is Asian, she eats white rice all the time. She lets her kids eat white rice, oh dear! My neighbors are from Iran, they eat white rice every single day. They all look fine to me.
I have a special relationship with rice. This might sound abnormal to you. But I have lived off white rice and nothing but white rice for long periods of time. Not in recent years but back in the day when I had nothing. It kept me alive. Its cheap. A Chinese “gentleman”, Albert, who owned the small grocery store down the street gave me bags of rice because he felt sorry for me. He didn’t want me to die of starvation.
So the next time someone tells me white rice is not good for me I will just laugh.
